The room is furnished before you arrive. Pack light.

Papers and essentials

  • Photo ID, Social Security card, and insurance cards
  • Benefit award letters if you receive SSI, SSDI, or a voucher
  • Current medications in their original containers, plus your pharmacy information
  • Names and numbers for your doctors, case manager, and emergency contacts
  • Any legal documents you keep: power of attorney, advance directives, DD-214 for veterans

Clothes and personal items

  • Clothing for the season, plus one warm coat for Indiana winters
  • Comfortable shoes and slippers
  • Your own toiletries if you prefer them. A welcome hygiene kit with the basics is already on your bed
  • Glasses, hearing aids, chargers, and other daily-use items

Things that make it feel like yours

  • A few photos or small keepsakes for your shelf
  • Your phone, tablet, or laptop. The internet is free in every home
  • A favorite blanket or pillow if you have one
  • Books, puzzles, or hobbies you can share at the community table

Leave these behind

  • Furniture and major appliances. Your room is fully furnished
  • Anything that conflicts with a clean, safe, drug-free home
  • Large stockpiles of food. Kitchens are stocked through shared shopping and monthly pantry trips

Who to notify about your new address

  • Social Security Administration, if you receive SSI or SSDI
  • Your bank, your pharmacy, and your medical providers
  • The post office, with a mail forwarding order
  • Family and friends who should know where home is now

Not sure about a specific item? Call (317) 669-8855 before moving day and ask. It is always an easier conversation before the car is packed.
